“Not Back To School” Day

YUM…IHOP for breakfast!!!  Justin ended up working from home today, so he got to come with us.  The kids thought it was great that they were eating Belgian waffles instead of riding  a bus to school :). I’m not sure if it was the rainy weather or Ryan just wasn’t feeling well (said he was tired), but he was a “little off” and needed some extra encouragement to get through his work.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

We had our first art lesson today and got to make Caulder Mobiles.  We learned about Alexander Caulder, an American artist who is famous for creating mobiles that sit on a base or hang from the ceiling using wire and other materials.  Caulder’s mobiles are also known for movement, so we experimented with our battery operated fans to make our mobiles move.

We began reading from Hero Tales today and are learning about Dwight Moody this week.  We learned  how he was a natural shoe salesman, but gave up his job because “selling kids on God” in Chicago was much more fulfilling!  We continued learning about forests and began filling in our blank maps of the United States (most of the state information is review for Brendan, so I am going to have him help me teach Ryan :)).

Verse of the Day:    Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm.  Let nothing move you.  Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.  1 Corinthians 15:58
