We had a fun surprise this morning as we walked around the block (P.E. :))…Ryan saw a small garter snake slithering through the grass. Like any other mom of boys, I told my oldest to catch it so I could get a cool picture! The first time Brendan grabbed the snake, it curled up and tried to bite him…oops! Brendan dropped that poor snake like a hot potato – LOL! The second time, he made sure to hold the snake a little further out and watched him a little more closely :). What an exciting science lesson! We talked about how animals camouflage themselves, what snakes eat, and then looked around for more critters. I just love it when God helps me out with our lessons!!!
We learned about the Navajo Indians today and how difficult their language was to translate into the Bible. The boys are learning their first memory verse this week also. We documented some of the differences between deciduous and coniferous forests, continued learning more about the 50 states, and started our spelling program.
The boys had their first guitar lesson this afternoon! I really hope that they enjoy playing the guitar and will stick with it. We also did a little “car schooling” while driving to and from class. It was a really cool video about Bears and Deer that I had checked out from the library.
I went to a home school support group meeting tonight and it was so encouraging to hear the other moms tell their struggles and triumphs with teaching their children. We are going to be working through a book called Home Schooling With a Meek and Quiet Spirit by Teri Maxwell. It sounds like it’s going to be a great study!
