Sharing Christmas Cheer!

This morning, a group of us went Christmas caroling at a local retirement home and we had a blast!  I LOVE seeing the residnents’ faces light up when they see the kids :)!  I hope that we brought a little Christmas cheer to their day – I know that spending time with the residents blessed my heart!!!

We are now officially on Christmas break – WOO, HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Character…

I went to my niece’s school Christmas concert this past week (which was wonderful by the way :)) and the chorus teacher had the kids repeat a definition of “character”.  They said “character is what you do when no one is looking.”  Wow.  That is powerful!  The funny thing is that we may put on a good show in front of others…we act a certain way to fit in, put on our happy face even when something doesn’t feel right, watch what others are watching, laugh at jokes that aren’t really funny, and so on.  Then, when we are “all alone” we feel like we can just “be ourselves”, but we need to remember that we are never truly alone.  God knows what we think, what we do, what we say, what we watch, what we read, what we eat, what we drink, what we listen to…everything we have ever done in the past, everything that we are doing at this exact moment, and everything we will do in the future.  Scary, isn’t it? It’s terryifying if you stop to really think about it.  And yet, He loves us anyway!  Now that is AMAZING GRACE!!!

Tumbling Tuesday:

Brendan and Ryan had a special tumbling/gymnastics class for P.E. this morning.  It must have been great exercise because both of them were sweating bullets when I picked them up :)!  We covered the usual subjects and then learned about and made three new items to go into our tabernacle model:

1 – the lampstand:

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. (John 8:12)   I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. (John 12:46)

2 – the alter of incense:

May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. (Psalm 141:2)   Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel’s hand. (Revelations 8:3-4)

3 – the table of showbread:

I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. … Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. (John 6:35, 49-50)

I can tell that we only have 3 more days until Christmas break…the kids are antsy and ready to be done.  I hope that they are absorbing some of these beautiful symbols that pointed to God and his plan to save us through Jesus.  I’m putting together a mini lapbook to reinforce everything and hopefully that will help.  I think we can, I think we can… 🙂 !
