Happy New Year!!!  I’m excited to see what 2014 has in store for our family!  Although I’ve enjoyed having two weeks off from our regular schedule, I’m ready to get back to school and our regular schedule….if only the kids were excited too 😉 .

There will be many changes this year.  I’ll have a new niece in just a few weeks, my cousin is having a baby boy in March, Brendan will be entering his high school years, Ryan will be starting middle school, Justin and I will celebrate our 17th anniversary, I will begin my new position as a 2014 Schoolhouse Review Crew member, there will be new experiences, we’ll have good days and bad days, challenges will come, and thankfully God will be with us all no matter what the new year brings.  I love the picture below and think that it’s a great reminder:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

I hope that 2014 is a year full of love, faith, laughter, growth, blessings for you and your families!

A Walk Down Memory Lane:

As 2013 comes to an end, I’ve been reminiscing about how our homeschool has grown and changed over the past 2 1/2 years.  Brendan and Ryan have learned so many new things, they have gotten much more independent with their work, and have adapted well to being taught at home.  We have taken some amazing field trips, shared the ups and downs of life, grown in our faith, memorized lots of scripture, survived some rough days, tried new foods and traditions, made new friends, and served God together.  The boys have both grown taller and stronger…especially Brendan!  My little boy is now towering over me, is almost as tall as his dad, and wears a size 11.5 shoe!!!

I’m soooo thankful that I’ve had the chance to spend every day with my boys and that we get to learn and grow together!  It is scary how QUICKLY the years are passing.  Brendan will be taking high school courses in the fall and Ryan will be stuck with have the great privilege of having me all to himself most days 🙂 .

Check out these pictures from our first month of homeschooling (August 2011):

The kids have changed so much! Ryan is now the age that Brendan was when we started. That means that in a little over 2 years, he’ll probably be taller that me too! Where does the time go??? I wonder if Mary felt the same way as she watched how quickly Jesus grew.  I’m going to try to cherish every moment that I have!

Is it Christmas Break Yet?

Are we done yet??? I’m totally NOT feeling motivated to do school this week 🙂 ! Thankfully we are caught up and only had a few things to complete over the past few days. Tomorrow the boys each have a math quiz and will need to finish their writing.  Justin took the day off from work and we’re going to see Frozen.  Then we are DONE with school until 2014!!!

Stop Hunger Now Event:

Thank you to everyone who helped donate money or bought ornaments to help us pack meals for Stop Hunger Now!  Our homeschool group’s original goal was to raise $2,500 and we surpassed that by raising $3, 191!!!  We went to the warehouse Saturday morning and packed 12,000 meals 🙂 !

It was so much fun serving together with friends and family and singing along to Christmas music!  One of the moms made a “Happy Birthday Jesus” cake and we celebrated the true meaning of Christmas after we were finished working.  If you’d like to know more about Stop Hunger Now, please visit their website at www.stophungernow.org .
