Financial Friday:

This morning we attended a financial class offered through our homeschool group.  Each student was assigned a job and an average salary.

Ryan was a Registered Nurse with a gross yearly salary of $77, 780, a gross monthly income of $6,482, and a net income of $4,525 per month.  Brendan was a Dental Hygienist with a gross yearly salary of $68, 680,  a gross monthly income of $5,723, and a net income of $4,292.  The kids had to budget for savings, housing, transportation, education (student loans), food, personal/miscellaneous, and entertainment.  It was funny to watch their reactions as they had to pick and choose budget items that were necessities v/s wants 🙂 .

This was just a basic, one hour class but I think it was a good way to get them thinking about their future!

  1. What a neat class. Do you have lesson plans that you can share?

  2. What a great class to help the students see how far their money will go and learning how to budget! So glad Brendan and Ryan had this opportunity. Would have been helpful to us old folks to have a class like this before we began life as working persons on a budget. HA!

    Love y’all,
    Grammy

  3. What a great opportunity! (you should have them do it at home with a teacher’s salary. ha!)
