Bible Journaling

Have you seen the new journaling bibles in the stores recently?

It seems to be the latest craze…and I AM LOVING IT ūüôā !¬† One of my sweet friends showed me one she had started before Christmas and I was hooked.¬† I love drawing and hadn’t done much of it recently.¬† Bible journaling¬†has been a¬†fun, creative¬†way to get back into¬†drawing and¬†incorporate art into¬†my quiet time!

This is the bible that I use.

Journaling bibles have extra space on the pages for note-taking, art, etc.

I tend to choose a verse or passage that stands out to me and focus on that for my project.

For example:

I have always loved theses verses from Isaiah (“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up on wings like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and not faint.”) so I decided to draw an eagle soaring above the mountains.¬† I found a picture of the eagle on Google Images and copied this one.

I had the idea to draw a lighthouse for this passage and found one online to copy.

Other times, I just picture something in my head and go for it:

There are also many wonderful websites, blogs, and Facebook pages that offer help.  One of my favorite is Bible Stories From The Heart.  They had a lesson on how to draw this lion with motion:

If you don’t like to draw, you can also use creative lettering, stickers, washi tape, scrapbooking supplies, or basically anything that you want to!

If you are unsure about writing/drawing in your bible, you can do your art on a separate piece of paper and then attach into your bible using washi tape.

Stickers are an easy option Рthese are from  Dollar Tree!

You can also find and print out coloring pages from the internet.

Or you can just trace and color.

My sweet friend, Lisa¬†who got me started has started her won blog called Draw Out Your Faith.¬† She hosts challenges, shares inspiration and ideas, and encourages us “newbies”!

Lisa is much braver than me and actually PAINTS in her bible!

She also has an amazing Pinterest page and Facebook group with LOTS of tips and ideas!

Go check them out!!!

I hope that this post encourages you to be creative with your quiet times.  There are many things that you can do to enhance your time with God including music, photography, art, poetry, and more.

Get out of your comfort zone and re-energize those quiet moments spent with your Heavenly Father!

Remember that your journaling experience will not look like mine…or Lisa’s…or anybody else’s for that matter.¬† You do what works for¬†you – what helps you focus on the promises of God -what brings¬†you joy – what you feel led to create or write.

Enjoy ūüôā !!!

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun:

I can’t believe that it’s been a week since my last post and that it’s already February 5th!¬† My mom has always said that “time goes by faster and faster the older you get.”¬† Good grief!¬† If it goes by this fast in my forties, I don’t want to even think about how¬†fast it’ll go by in the future!!!

We’ve had a good week and have been steadily working through our lesson plans.¬† On Monday, Brendan started Android Programming by Homeschool Programming as one of his electives (which is right up his alley ūüôā ).¬† His schedule will be a little lighter for the next few weeks because I opted to let him read Black Ships Before Troy instead of The Illiad (an option offered as part of his curriculum), so we decided that this would be a good time to go ahead and take the programming course.

He’s also working on a fun project for science and will be conducting several experiments to try to keep the squirrels out of our new bird feeders.¬† I hope he’s up for¬†the challenge ūüėČ !

He’s got a tough job ahead of him – LOL!!!

Ryan and I just finished studying the Revolutionary War.  We are learning about pollination in science, reading Mary Jones and Her Bible as our new read aloud, working on a presentation about Benjamin Franklin, starting a research project in writing, and lots of other fun things:

I am super excited about several reviews that I have coming up over the next few months!¬† Hint, hint: these companies will be at the 2015 HEAV convention ūüėČ .¬† More to come soon!

Not So Great Hunting Skills:

I have the Monday “blahs” ūüė¶ .¬†¬† It’s not always the students – LOL!¬† After such a fun weekend, I just didn’t feel like doing school.¬† On¬†Friday night we got to babysit my cousin’s sweet 6 month old, I went out with friends from Sunday School on Saturday, and we had a wonderful day on Sunday including church, a nap, and dinner with family.

But school must go on so we trudged through…

Ryan finished memorizing his memory verses for the first few weeks of school.  After all the repetition of reading it aloud every day, copying, dictating, and doing activities like typing the verse, fill-in-the-blank worksheets, and gluing the scrambled words in order, he got it perfectly!

Ryan’s art lesson was on David and Goliath:

Then we played some Native American games that the young boys would play to help sharpen their hunting skills.¬† Let’s just say that we would have been very hungry tonight if my boys were hunting for our dinner ūüėČ !!!

Let the Countdown Begin!

WOO, HOO ūüôā !!!

Not sure which workshops to choose first?¬† Walking into the convention for the first time (or fourth – LOL) can be overwhelming – the choices are VAST!¬† There are so many wonderful speakers and topics that it can be hard to choose.¬†¬†This ¬†Schedule-at-a-Glance has the tracks separated into different categories to help you decide!¬† Also, don’t forget that a MP3 recording of all the sessions will be available for sale at a discounted price at the convention.¬† You don’t have to miss a thing!______________________________________________________
